The latest “World Energy Resources report” released by the World Energy Council (WEC) shows an unexpectedly high growth in the renewable energy market. The total global renewable energy generating capacity has doubled over the past decade, from 1037 GWe in 2006 to 1985 GWe by the end of 2015.

In particular, the report notes that at the end of December 2015 global nuclear generating capacity stood at 390 GWe, representing about 11% of the world’s electricity. The development of nuclear power is today concentrated in a relatively small group of countries (China, South Korea, India and Russia accounted for 40 of the 65 reactors under construction at the end of last year) but there is also nuclear power construction in other parts of the world.
