A recycling company has proposed the construction of a $300 million plant to convert rubbish from across Adelaide’s east and inner south to electricity.

One wheelie bin of rubbish could produce up to 20 per cent of a household’s weekly power needs and this type of facility would provide a baseload supply of renewable energy.

The recent blackout and rising costs of electricity has sparked heated debated about the reliability of SA’s power network. The proposed plant would be the first of its kind in SA and among the first in Australia.
